On Monday, March 23, the President of South Africa announced a national lockdown to help prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus, now effective through end of the April.  As a result of that national order, we have suspended all non-essential programs. However, there are some things we just cannot afford to cut, including food parcels, medical transport, and access to health care, for the thousands of children we work with.

Normally we feed children that are in the most vulnerable situations - close to 250 households.  If we use the current situation, most of our families will meet that criteria.  We could soon be feeding up to 1000 households a month.  It’s going to take a herculean, unified effort to weather this storm and uphold our commitment to the thousands of children and young people who call Key of Hope home.  And to make it short — we need your help!

As Africa braces for the health impact, Key of Hope braces for the financial one. Like other charities and nonprofit organizations around the world, we are hoping for the best but preparing for the worst. There is no CARES Act for Africa. There are no food banks, soup kitchens, or checks from the government on the way. We are the safety net. There never was a more “essential service.” Our work must continue!

That’s why we’re announcing the official launch of the Key of Hope COVID-19 Relief Fund.

These are unprecedented days for our generation - and for Key of Hope. We are asking you to stand with us on war footing to see our critical work sustained through this perilous season. We are asking all of our friends and partners to join in this effort and help us provide much needed relief to the children and families of Durban, and allow us to continue the critical operations of Key of Hope.  Extend your faith with ours, and make a donation today that will let us know that you can be counted on to stick with us in this fight, come what may. Together, we can make a difference and show the love of Christ once again to the children of Durban.
